How Many of Us Have Actually Had a Threesome in Real Life?

In the past two decades, from the time people started to accept 50 degrees of gray to BDSM became a household name, then to open relationships and group sex, people began to accept similar ideas and become more open.

In real life, although you can find more knots in your partner, you have no way of knowing what others have done. We can find some surveys online to tell us exactly what percentage of people have had a threesome or other open behavior in real life. In 2017, Debbie Herbenick and colleagues published a new study in PLOS ONE, which collected samples of 2,000 Americans over 18 years of age. In the results, we can learn the true situation of contemporary American sexual behavior in the dark.

The research itself provides a lot of information, but this article only discusses threesome and group sex. The results we get are actually somewhat surprising, about 10% of women and 18% of men have experience with threesome and group sex. In other words, at least one in seven Americans have had threesome sex experience once, and one in five Americans find it attractive.

About age

Among women, data for women aged 25 to 29 are significantly higher than for other age groups. Although youth in college might be wild, this number is lower than we think. On average, women’s sexual exploration comes much later than men’s, and they are open for a shorter time.

About motivation and behavior

Although many people are interested in threesome sex, there are many factors that prevent them from taking action. So the survey data does not fully show people’s willingness to threesome and group sex. But we still have something to tell us what people want from them.

Male stereotype

Among the many results, one shows that the true situation is the opposite of the usual male stereotype. More than 60% of men made it clear that they would not be crazy about multisexual behavior. However, it should be noted that the main purpose of this study is not this, and the lack of non-dual gender survey samples.
